Maurice and all, It is consistent with what I read the other day in Chinese though no exact service date. The article is misleading that China Space Company (The service provider in China) is a part of China Unicom. chinaonline.com Globalstar To Connect To China Telecom Land Network (12/16/1999) ChinaÝs top two telecom companies signed an agreement on Dec. 14 in Beijing to connect China UnicomÝs Globalstar mobile phone customers to China TelecomÝs vast fixed line network, the Dec. 15 Beijing Qingnian Bao (Beijing Youth Daily) reported. Globalstar is an international satellite communications consortium founded by Loral Space & Communications in 1991. Subscribers can make phone calls across the globe using GlobalstarÝs network of 48 low-earth-orbiting satellites. The system's patented CDMA (code division multiple access) technology allows more efficient use of existing radio bandwidth. It also features call support by multiple satellites simultaneously, enabling users to communicate seamlessly while traveling.
