Z and all,

I think, to steal a phrase from John Templeton, that we just passed a point of maximum pessimism. Here Maxtor comes out and says that they will not lose massive sums of money this quarter but only moderate sums. The result? The stock leads the sector on a tear this morning.

Just think what will happen when (if) really good news hits this sector.

Z,
<<Any idea whether other companies actually raised prices? >>

To be honest I thought that Maxtor's price increase was more bluster then real but note that in their conference Cannon said that their performance was given a push by their price increase. I guess we have to wait and see. I use Mark's reports and another to follow street pricing and those reports suggest a "firming" in prices. Not surprising given the season.

Re: WDC I have heard that they booked a large OEM order but do not know where it comes from but I also think you have a point. It is a good time for them to try to repair relationships.

Best,
Stitch
