Granted. One area that I'm sensitized to, however, is the need for differentiation between application types. To this end I believe that dozens of differentiated classes of service may be invoked, or tagged, by various vendors' (CSCO's comes to mind) models. What I'm referring to is the delta in the level of tolerance to minute latencies (which accumulate with each hop) for normal web apps versus those for conversational mode applications such as voice and real time video. But I suppose that's why they read packet headers, right? The dichotomy of r-t and text/mm application tolerance doesn't go away, signaling the continued need for at least two levels of differentiated treatment.. still.
