Jim - Different MMs make different deals. Generally, if the buying or selling individual's broker makes a market in the stock and posts the best bid or offer, he makes his piece through his commission and the individual buys the stock at the bid or sells it at the offer. That's how it works with my broker/MM. If he doesn't make a market in a particular stock, however, he has to call a MM that does, and he might give that MM as little as a penny or less per share, up to a tick or even two per share, to "reflect" his order (that is, have the MM bid or offer for him). There are other possible arrangements, too. -Eric
