niceguy, Since I do not buy puts and calls I am not familiar with the jargon. Write a put is an agreement to give someone a share at the price written($25 as elmer said).
So Elmer is betting the price on the market will fall and he can buy on the market and make that person buy at $25.
A call would be the opposite way, you could force them to sell at $25, assuming that was the written price, and if the market was higher you make some money.
Any great earnings will give rise to an upwards elap and those who were complacent about AMD and thought AMD would carry on deeply in lossland will readily agree to this, and when AMD gives out some far better earnings for the 4th quarter they will get burned.
Now Elmer, the pessimist, feels AMD will crater earnings wise, so he sells thos $25 puts. It will be ice to see them bought by him at, $35 to sell at $25, crying all the way to the bank, as they say.
