You're wrong about the market makers.

Perhaps you don't have access to level II, but you can clearly see that Beat Stearns & Warburg Dillon make a market in MESG. Stephens also is a MM (but obviously they are not large), they also followed their own rec. by buying in the 16 & 17's.

Just so you know most market makers don't take many overnight positions, so your statement "What MM doesn't have is a large inst. investor making a market in MESG. The benefit being that the investor would have the funds to absorb some selling in MESG." would not hold.

Perhaps you meant knew inst. investors period (not market makers). Coverage from a major investment bank would breed the inst. investor interest. My bet is that MESG has, hitherto, used a smaller investment bank for its previous acquisitions. Until they get a new/bigger relationship we won't get the huge bank to cover MESG (because banking & coverage go hand in hand).
