IMF sold, bought back gold to fund debt relief

WASHINGTON, Dec 17 (Reuters) - The International Monetary Fund, revaluing some assets to fund an international program of debt relief, sold gold to Brazil on Tuesday and bought it straight back in an off-market deal, an IMF statement said.

The statement said Brazil had used the gold to repay debts to the fund. ''We sold slightly more than 7 million ounces of gold to Brazil and accepted it back immediately from Brazil for payment of an obligation due the same day,'' Treasurer Eduard Brau said. ''Thus the gold did not enter the market.''

Hello, I've been lurking and enjoying the discussion.

Watching the show from over here (Europe)it's really UFB. Here is another link, I guess shares are becoming boring for the general trading crowd...

cbs.marketwatch.com

I've sold even all my Eurpean share holdings and am pulling completely out od the USD, down to the last cent. I guess I'll take my risks with the Euro (at least my income and expenses are in Euros).

2000 is going to be interesting. We should start a discussion on how to play this, without exactly knowing when the BK is going to hit (just buying out of the money options a few weeks before expration is basic and expensive, unless you hit the jackpot pretty quickly).
