Mindmeld,

The other point that's lost in the statement being made by some (re: Cisco's purchase of still-born technology) is that companies like Cerent and Monterrey are fairly and new and have technology that although being deployed is not huge markets today. The US and this stock market is one of instant gratification... if you buy a company and it's not contributing significantly in the first 6-12 months post acquisition then many consider this a failure. That's just not the case... sometimes things take a little longer to mature. That's not to mean that every aquisistion will eventually be a success.. we've seen some bad ones but that considering Cisco's recent aquisitions a failure when the market is still nacent is akin to declaring an early death to someone very much alive.

One last point regarding Mr Fun's earlier post...which was quite good. I do think Cisco has some huge challenges durign the next year or so..but to state at this early stage of deployments for next generation infrastructure Cisco a failure or to assume they won't succeed again is a leap of faith. I do continue to believe that CSCO will get there fair share of both enterprise and carrier business going forward....but only time will tell. IJMO

Hey Mindmeld, I am not stupid enough to short Cisco either. It's a momentum play and as long as the broad market is doing well, CSCO will do well.

Everything I say is towards the mid to long-term........I do not make any guesses as to what ANY stock (including NT) will do in the short term.
