I Cannot imagine a disk cable longer than 1.5' to 2' and here, we're talking almost 5'...! Why?

Clarence was running a SCSI bus from his motherboard up to a CD-ROM located at the top of his full tower case, then back down to a connector mounted next to his motherboard. From there the SCSI bus extended to his external SCSI Jaz drive.

By the way if you use the high voltage differential version of the SCSI bus the maximum length is 25 meters and if you use the low voltage differential version of the SCSI bus the maximum length is 12 meters. Longer distances like these are required when building large disk arrays.
