Mary Meeker on Ebay:

Auctioneer EBay Inc. has seen a decline in the number of items available on its site this quarter to 2.9 million from 3.7 million, though Meeker attributed the decline to seasonality of the business and said ``the underlying momentum on the site continues to be pretty strong.'

It got down to 2.2M and would have gone well below 2M, had eBay not done the below:

At the last minute, eBay decided to offer up a "Free Listing" day, which will add 750,000 or more auctions to the count.

The majority of these items will go unsold and will make auction counts over the next two weeks unreliable.

I wonder if this was eBay reacting to some statement by Meeker?
