As I said to NiceGuy, writing short term puts is effective in a bullish, neutral and mildly bearish situation. The only time it doesn't work is in a real downturn, but what would happen to you then if you were long? I'll still do OK because I'll be buying at a discount, or I'll roll the options out to a later month. To play AMD all I need is a forecast that is not decidedly short term bearish. I think this is prudent at this time. On Intel I am long term bullish.

This is not my only strategy, just one of them. This generates cashflow. I also hold stock for the long term.
