How Rich Is Bill Gates?
...

How Soon Until Bill Is a Trillionaire?

Microsoft's stock has jumped 10-fold since May 1995 and has climbed at an annual rate of more than 59 percent for the past 10 years. If the stock continued to soar at that rate, Gates' current stake would cross the $1 trillion mark by 2005. Assuming the U.S. economy grows an average 3 percent a year, his fortune would surpass the U.S. gross domestic product by 2010.

...
If the stock lost 90 percent of its value, Gates' shares would still be worth enough to give him $14 million a month for the next 50 years.
