You're right it's not Rocket science, even you could do it. If you did then you'd know you can make money on stocks you don't expect to go anywhere, or even expect to go down.

I think Elmer was just trying to show readers of the posts another way to make money in the market, besides just buy and hold (or daytrade). I don't see that there was any FUDD involved.

Selling puts has evidently been a good way for Intel holders to generate cash flow as their stock price went up without parting with their precious shares. I take his suggestion as "it may be that this type of investment activity is now appropriate for AMD holders as well (which it hasn't always been)."

I know I certainly don't want to part with any of my AMD right now, and this looks like it would be a good way to pull out a little cash if I need to, without backing down on my position.

It was a good tip.
