Red,

Looks like BHP has a wad of cash burning a hole in their pocket. I wonder who else this bit of news might spur to jump into the hunt for new diamond opportunities, and before BHP makes a move eh:-))

Paul Anderson, managing director of The Broken Hill Pty Co Ltd (BHP), says the company is starting to look for new opportunities to grow after two years of selling off and closing down its problem projects, reported Reuters. BHP is looking at a range of minerals but nickel is already in the company's sights as a possible source of growth. BHP was also looking at expanding in diamonds after its success in developing the Ekati diamond mine in Canada. In an interview with Reuters Mr. Anderson indicated that price would be no object. "It's very hard to say how much you'd be willing to spend. The real question is: is it a good buy and going to add shareholder value,' he said in the interview. (Friday, December 17, 1999)
