yeah, you are right. They come and go like the wind. It's not so much the guru that makes it happen, it's the people working with the guru.
Or just plain luck in many cases. There are those that dig deep and see the future. But as far as momo's.....
A guru is really only as good as his/her follower's buying power and strength. It's not the pick.

Imagine if enough of us were to get together and combine our strengths. As a team, we could decide the value of our stocks. Maybe I am dreaming. Yes, that's it, it's just a big dream. I have to go pinch myself now.

Wouldn't you just love to be the cause of them big gaps though, rather than companies like GSCO, Merrill, etc... How 'bout that big run in Yahoo eh?? Tell me that wasn't a team effort. We got enough to mess around with the little ones that seem like good values but get no respect.

Here's another way to look at gurus - if your average Joe on SI spent as much time learning trading and investing skills instead of just looking for a guru to follow, he/she would be more and more capable of finding his own picks and playing others' picks for bigger profits - and limiting the inevitable losses too.

It's the difference between Long John Silver's drive-thru window and learning how to fish for yourself.

As you can tell, I'm not big on gurus. I wish there was more of a groundswell against them instead of just a herd trying desperately to chase the latest hot hand.

None of the above is intended to apply to any particular SI personality.
