Novellus (NVLS) 85 11/64 +8 31/64: company preannounces an upside surprise for Q4; says revenues will be $190 mln and after-tax margin will be 16-17%, implying earnings of $0.75-0.79 per share versus a consensus of $0.65. NVLS also guides number higher for the first half of 2000, with revenue/margin forecasts implying a conservative EPS estimate of $1.85 for the first half. And finally, the company announces a 3-1 stock split.

Jay,

Cymer does not benefit from the accelerated adoption of 300 mm. Whether the newly planned line is 200 mm or 300 mm wafers, they are 0.25 and lower and they already would use Cymer's lasers.

Front end CMP, CVD and etch equipment needs to get replaced because 300 mm requires a larger foot print compare to 200 mm. And of course transport companies like PRIA also benefit.

Upgrading from 200 to 300 mm clearly requires new equipment from NVLS and AMAT but probably no new DUV lasers from Cymer assuming the 200 mm line was already 0.25.
