Thanks for the summary of the SSB report. What all the analysts reports I have read doesn't make clear is that super-long haul systems like Qtera's requires optical components like Raman Amplifiers, Optical Cross Connects, Dynamic Gain Equalization Filters, Programmable Optical Add Drops, Dispersion and Slope Compensation Modules...etc IN ADDITION to all the optical components that are in use in current WDM systems eg. EDFAs, 980/1480 pumps..etc. If and when these super long haul systems gets deployed, it is going to be a bonanza for optical component companies.

BTW, in case you are wondering what the advantage of Qtera's system is in view of all these additional components it seems to require. The one piece of equipment that will be redundant in the above scenerio is the O-E-O regenerator that is needed every 500km in present day systems. These regenerators can account for up to 50% of the systems cost!
