[Winstar Communications, Hongkong Land Holdings Said In Telecom Venture]

HONG KONG -(Dow Jones)- U.S.-based Winstar Communications Inc. and property developer Hongkong Land Holdings Ltd. have established a joint venture aimed at providing high-tech telecommunications services to commercial buildings in Hong Kong and mainland China, the South China Morning Post reported Saturday.

The Winstar (WCII) and Hongkong Land joint venture company, to be called Winstar Hong Kong, has applied for a wireless fixed-telephone license from the Hong Kong government, according to the report. The company plans to offer telephone and broadband Internet and data services. Licenses are expected to be issued early next year.

Hongkong Land owns about five million square feet of commercial building space, mostly in the Central business district, according to the report. Hongkong Land officials couldn't be reached for comment.
