When you introduce the DOCSIS modem and CMTS assemblies between the user and the cloud ... you no longer have a "wire." What you have, instead, is an elaborate scheme with its own rules defined in the DOCSIS architecture which sits on the tail section of a proprietary intranet, and not the Open Internet supporting plain old IP.

I'll just have to take your word on it.

I keep thinking that it this is so hard for someone like myself to grasp how utterly impossible it must be for the politicians and the general public to see.

After all- IP is just IP isnt it? Why should it matter *how* you get it from the user to the headend? After that its just standard "net stuff" right?

No need to answer- Just trying to point out by example how it has the appearance to most that "open access" really should be pretty easy to do if you accept the premise that the MSO/ATHM team provide the transport.

"It's all just a scheme by the evil cable companies to take control of the internet" is more along the lines that your average person can grasp.
