How BTTT stocks are chosen:

1) stock must be in a significant trend, either up or down (can be measured by MACD...see Clearstation.com for this...or simply drawing trendlines...higher lows/lower highs over 3 months is enough for me to call it a trend)

2) stock must have sold off/rallied to support/resistance, usually measured by the 40MA, but can also be a channel line or some other price pattern (50% retracement, e.g.)

3) 14-period Stochastics must confirm an end to the correction with a "classic" signal (%K crosses %D from above/below 75/25) or a "mini-classic" signal (at or near 50)

I also play pure price pattern breakouts on volume, and occasionally trade on news alone (though this is less successful).
