Mama Bear: I can understand your point, but you won't find many shorts that do not know what they are doing, and that is point exactly. Shorting is not a tactic learned by the newbie trader, not for a very long time. I have been hurt many times by a bad short position, but I knew exactly what could happen if the issue caught fire. It takes a certain discipline, experience, and individual to short well ....... something you will not find in all but the rarest newbie trader. Do you not think that roam all corners of SI?

And I am sorry, but your argument is not valid. I am as objective as they come here on SI and like I said, there are many shorts that are objective and constructive when stating their positions, but I have no tolerance for the brutalness that is shown from a pack of shorts when they decide an issue is "ready" ..... and I restate, this does not apply to all.

It is about experience. Read the post again, objectively.

I do not want to clutter up this thread with replies to this topic however, but I do thank you your input.

Tj

Mama Bear, from the first time I can remember , coming across some of your posts till now, I have always been taken by the rational , thought and content in them...always measured by what i percieve to
be a great deal of experience and knowledge.

...Have also seen you handle
many & most situations with great composure , presence,
and even when in a heated state, keep greatly focussed
and adroit presentation before you, and provoke only thought
and reflection in the one you are addressing.

I think you state the philosophy and view of shorting
very eloquently here, and in the Mama Bear style
of which has always impressed.

There is possibly a world of stocks out there that need
to be shorted and brought down (to their knees?) because of
internals, scam/disception/, ineptitude, mismanagement,
failure to execute, market changes etc etc....

I was just wondering Barb, are there any
you ever go long on?

Very instructive post, and makes clearer
the position of short selling, and glad to encounter
the thoughts and process of Mama Bear once again.
Many things yet to learn.

thanks,

:-)

that statement.
to newbies to investing--learn the handles of posters, and their style and track records, this is how i distinguish between shorters and longs, this is a vast grey area where we
need sort out the best from the worst, the sincere from the phony and so on--a big part of my investing is knowing the boards, and who to trust and not to trust.
Mama Bear is one of the finest.
One other key point, even the best of shorters or "longers" can at times be terribly wrong-so always check and double check, that is do your own DD.

Barb,

I think you have some valid points, but I also do not think TJ was talking about you. There are many shorts that try and use fear and hype to drive a stock down just as there are many that use hype to try and make it run. Neither one is welcome here. If you tell me that you are shorting a stock I am long and give me a good reason why, I have no problem with it. The shorts that use fear to try and get the inexperienced to sell their shares are no better the the hypesters that you and Anthony fight against.
