I am sorry but accident has nothing to do with antitrust law. Monopoly is a "status" offense. There is an additional offense of attempted monopoly, and mergers that "even in their incipiency" "tend to create monopoly or lessen competition" are illegal. In addition to US law, we have Euro Law and Canadian Law that all agree on this issue. Of course, anyone injured by the actions of a monopoly can sue and in the US obtain triple damages, court costs, and reasonable attorneys fee. Lucent is no doubt chomping at the bit. Stay tuned.
