Sell ?? ... NOT now ... CPQ has seemingly stopped their train from going back down hill, has once again begun to gain some UPward traction and should be picking UP stem for a sppedy move forward.

rudedog, I can't quite figure out the direct/indirect benefit accruing to us CPQ shareholders of the CPQ/CMGI deal though I DO believe it was needed & necessary because: CPQ believed that they HAD (1) to focus on getting CPQ's core/new business forward-lookingly back in shape, and/or (2) to cut the AV cost drain, and/or (3) to provide some type of resultant intangible $$ benefits for shareholders (I know Capt & victor don't buy this), and/or etc.....

It would be a real 'swift' & timely move for the BOD/Rosen/MC to declare a special dividend re: CPQ's CMGI assets ....

Previously someone posted an idea of approx. 42sh CPQ could = 1sh CMGI .... maybe then CPQ, still wanting some of the CMGI asset for internal reasons declares a 1 time special dividend of 100sh CPQ = 1sh CMGI.

This would be quite acceptable to me ... don't know whether it's workable nor acceptable to CPQ.

Your thoughts

Michael

rudedog, victor, El, etc. ,

As a Goldman-Sachs Private Client Services client I recieve all their investment research reports .... these research reports are WELL THOUGHT OF & READ THROUGHOUT THE WS/FM/ANALYST COMMUNITY

on Wednesday I got 2 major ISSUES & OUTLOOK 2000 Reports .... #1 was on Open Systems Hardware (OSH) by Rick Shutte and #2 was on Enterprise Systems Hardware (ESH) by Laura Conigliaro ..... both are TOP analysts, both reviewed the future of their respective industries and the companies in those industries.

Shutte's OSH report covered the OSH area and his Focus stocks: CPQ, DELL, GTW, etc.

Conigliaro's ESH reports covered the areas of hardware for the web world, appliances, storage, wireless, bandwidth, hardware uptime, etc. and her Focus stocks: COBT, HWP, IBM, SUNW, EMC, SGI, ... NOTICE WHO IS MISSING FOR THIS LIST .... CPQ

I e-mailed Laura as to WHY ???? CPQ was omitted from her report since CPQ (1) was the largest supplier of web servers, (2) is focused on & is successful with their NON-STOPs, (3) is a top 3 supplier of network storage, (4) has intoduced an appliance and will be introducing more, (5) is implementing a wireless hardware strategy .....

The one line e-mail response I got from Laura was:

Rick Shutte covers COMPAQ

One would think that when a MAJOR firm writes a MAJOR industry outlook research report that the analyst would not only cover his/her companies of responsibility but also cover ALL companies that fall within the reports INDUSTRY focus.

Nooooooo ..... myopically dissed again ... an injustice !!!
