Twister, <will rdram be used in future Intel servers? Isn't memory limited to 1 gigabyte currently?>

Currently, the memory limit on 820 motherboards is 512 MB, while the memory limit on 840 motherboards is 1 GB. Once 256 Mbit RDRAMs crank up in production sometime in 2000, the memory limits will increase to 1 GB and 2 GB, respectively.

As for future servers, well, it depends on what kind of server you're talking about. Certain the 840 can be a low-end server platform with two processors and up to 2 GB of RDRAM. But enterprise servers with four to eight processors and much more memory may stick to SDRAM for quite a while.

The answer is Yes and Yes. There will be new Intel chips for servers in the future. For now Rambus is more of a workstation solution. (With emphasis on video workstations I understand)
