LT and all:

A few anecdotic indicators that I use are saying "It is about time."
1. A few weeks ago, a friend of mine treated me to lunch, and with a big smile, asked me if I knew about ISLD and NSOL, which he owned. Keep in mind that this was before the terrific runs these stocks made in the last couple of weeks. Obviously he got in early and the stocks had more than doubled for him. While I was trying hard to come up with words to compliment his razor-sharp trading skills, he said to me, "I don't believe in trading. You have to buy and hold." This is a person with a grand total of 12-18 months of investing experiences. -ng- I did not know what to say, and finally uttered, "got gold?" -g-
2. Another acquaintance, about 18 months ago, pounded a table into the ground and insisted that I should buy BRK, which was just above 77,000 at that time and shortly before it peaked around 84,000. Unbelievably, this person at that time used some tricks to buy more BRK with his wife's IRA money without her knowing beforehand. Now fast-forward to 1999. A couple of weeks ago, he began to suggest buying CMGI, because one would be able to own lots of Internet IPOs. And, I am not kidding about this story.
3. Finally, an indicator that has worked at least 8 out of 10 times is that I will be traveling for the next two weeks. Something dramatic always happens when I am on a trip, especially long trips. So, as of yesterday afternoon, I am short QQQ and SPY. I will see, when I return, whether I start with capital gains or losses at the beginning of the new year. -g-

Happy Holiday and Y2K to everyone. Good luck.
