Once a virtual situation takes place now somebody needs to arrange for transport. Broadband transport over long distances that is controlled by the incumbent.

Lets assume that the goal is "virtual" access. I assume then that you don't need co-location anymore- is this correct?

A few problems exist: QOS issues, cost of bandwidth, provisioning and billing systems to mention just a few

I want to be able to grasp these issues on a slightly deeper than superficial level. Could you go just a tiny bit deeper into explaining them?

For example- how hard is it to have the router at the headend count the # of bits passing through based on what ISP and then report that back to a central place? You would think that the equipment people would gladly fall all overthemselves to develop whatever is needed to sell the system to the MSO's.
