Like all other companies gold miners have managements - who use their best judgement about their company. You might invest in a company one day thinking it does not hedge and the next day it might change it's policy and start hedging. I can't rememebr which one - either HM or NEM - one of them this happened recently - or the reverse. And I saw in the last couple of days that Agnico Eagle - that bastion of non-hedgers has taken out a line of credit which is available, amongst other things, for 'hedging operations'
and since this is the Barrick thread I will repeat that you shouldn't be stuck in the recent past while evaluating this company - its future growth will come through mine development and acquisitions - just watch. In assessing the quality of a company you have to look at its management.
And like a golfer or artist what's important is the next round - the next painting.
