Re: And didn't Gateway DUMP AMD after about 6 months of selling Kdawg 6's ?

I think Gateway has learned its lesson as far as relying on a single source for CPUs is concerned.

Dumping AMD as a second source may be one of the main reasons Waite has stepped aside as CEO. Don't think he was forced, but disappointment over that decision may have caused him to think it was time to let some others increase their influence.

Too bad, really, he was always more interesting and had more common sense than most. Then he decided to depend on Intel - oh well.

Just speculation.

Dan

Paul,

Re: " ... And didn't Gateway DUMP AMD after about 6 months of selling Kdawg 6's ?"

Yes, Gateway was using the K6/K6-2 in their "sleek" desktop ... No longer,
Gateway switched to the Celeron. AMD is having a "hard time" even on the
low end.

Make It So,

Paul, re:<And didn't Gateway DUMP AMD after about 6 months of selling Kdawg 6's ?>

Guess you haven't been in a Gateway Country Store in a while. One of their hottest sellers is a "K-Dawg 6" with an integrated 15" LCD monitor for, I think, $1,499. This unit takes about half a square foot of desk space, has USB and networking ports and is selling like hotcakes.

When I asked a salesman if he had any Athlon systems, the reply was "not yet."
