Drug stocks not doing well these days! I sold mine.

Well, I recently sold out of a long time SBH position and took a long term Monsanto position; not so much for the meds but for the mutant foodie food. I have this strong hunch about people needing to eat. <g>

I wondered why you asked so many questions about Vioxx.

Partly because of the Monsanto interest, partly because of chronic back pain, and partly because I'm an amateur pharmacist (as well as amateur epidemiologist and amateur OB/GYN).

PS: How goes the Christmas shopping?

Just got in. It was fun. We're going back tomorrow. Santa was on the ferry along with Victorian carolers (or maybe they were Edwardian, I couldn't tell). Anyway, there were FREE COOKIES! I kept going back for more. - Lots of parents with little kids running about. Many of the parents were drinking heavily by mid bay.

I would like to file a report from the field here and include that the Union Square area was absolutely INSANE with people. I have never (never ever ever) seen things as busy in the city. I don't know nothin' bout no eCommerce, this was like wall to wall. The panhandlers were even laying low. One thing for sure - BUSINESS IS GOOD! We're not in Kansas anymore folks. This really is a whole new economy. Either that, or the end of the world.

On a slightly twisterish contrary note, I saw at Borders that Firesign Theater has a new CD out called "Boom dot bust". I thought that was funny. Funnier though was asking about the new-theory physics book by Julian Barbour called "The End of Time" and being told it was on "indefinite backorder" <g>. It was a good thing I wasn't drinking a softdrink at the time. Sometimes irony is more poignant than others.

Speaking of books I discovered geek central for books today; Stacy's Books on Market st. "Java" books DOMINATED. This isn't some chain store with some lets let the publisher rack the shelves thing. This is a serious indy bookstore. There were several TONS of Java books there. I don't think I could understate the pervasiveness of 'Java' on the shelves. It was/is remarkable.

A Christmas Carol was sold out. The bistro where I had hoped to have an early dinner (Scalas) was like resevered through the end of the century. People were standing in line to eat at Nordstroms (of all places) at 5:00. The city was packed. It wasn't like this last year or years prior. Brick and mortar were rockin'.

There were furry animal friendly people marching on Neiman Marcus. There were about 50 SFPD with plastic handcuff things. I took a picture of the girls posing on Union Square with the 50 policemen and Macy's in the background. I also asked for and received a souvenir SFPD plastic handcuff thing.

We just didn't have time to do all the things planned. We're going back tomorrow for Ice Skating, but what I really want to do is to go to CyberBowl in Japan Town. They have glow in the dark bowling balls and everyone bowls by black light.

One store (besides Stacy's books) that I found really cool was the Discovery channel store by the Sony Metreon. I could do ALL of my Christmas shopping there. Anyone familiar with that one? It's like the Nature Company only better.
