In the early days this place was very similar to DAR today. It wasn't until you started talking (with a strong viewpoint) about politics, social problems and the military that people began to disagree. Such as it is with life. How we all handle that disagreement, is the key toward continuing dialogue on topics we may have strong views and engrained mental models over. The posts are still there for anyone willing to do the reading. Michael

SIBob can't solve the problem, IMO, it's insoluble. While you were gone, many different things were tried, and none of them solved the problem. You just have to accept that certain people are not going to listen thoughtfully to what you say, and agree with what they can agree with, and disagree with the rest. They are going to excoriate you, according to a rigid, unwavering agenda. They aren't going to say intelligent, thoughtful things of their own. They exist to "counterpunch" and "puncture pompous gas bags." The automatic nature reminds me of someone who should remain nameless, initials EV. I've tried to learn to shrug them off. I do admire your good natured way of dealing with them, I think you are doing as well as can be expected, under the circumstances. I don't know if you ever saw, or remember the movie, "Forbidden Planet." The people on the planet were endangered by an invisible monster, the Id Monster. Eventually, they learned that it fed on negative emotions, and got stronger. I think we may be dealing with similar things here. The only way is not to feed it. That probably won't work, either.
