(PR NEWSWIRE) MTI Awarded U.S. Patent for RAID Technology
MTI Awarded U.S. Patent for RAID Technology

Company Leads Industry with Patent Awards Relating To
RAID and Fault Tolerance

ANAHEIM, Calif., Dec. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- MTI Technology Corp.
(Nasdaq: MTIC) today announced it has expanded its technology patent portfolio
with the addition of a new U.S. patent for RAID redundancy technology that
offers greater fault tolerance and data integrity. MTI's position as a leader
in patent awards relating to RAID and fault tolerance further supports the
company's goal to be the foremost provider of fault-tolerant enterprise
storage systems.
"MTI's extensive patent portfolio is evidence of the company's commitment
to technology innovation," said Kevin J. Liebl, MTI's vice president of
marketing. "This new patent reflects RAID storage technology design that has
resulted in enterprise storage systems renowned for their high reliability and
performance. MTI remains fully committed to continuing this tradition of
designing and implementing the greatest advances in RAID technology."
U.S. Patent No. 5,956,524 has been awarded to MTI for a technology that
creates redundancy data to an array of storage devices and regenerates the
data from existing data correction codes. The invention synchronizes the data
flow from multiple drives or buffers to create redundancy data when servicing
write requests or for regenerating data on a drive or sector in the event of a
drive failure. The result is a higher level of data integrity and
fault-tolerance for the RAID system.
Through the integration and synchronization of internal data buffers, this
new technology streamlines the operations of creating redundant data or
regenerating data. Overall performance is greatly improved both when
servicing normal write operations and for servicing read and write operations
in the event of a storage device failure.
Since 1990, MTI has received over 40 patents for storage technology
developed by the company and its affiliates. The new claim adds to MTI's RAID
and fault-tolerant technology patent portfolio.
