CDNX market depth available here:cdnx.ca Good writeup on a recent interview with management from Raging Bull: Investor Online Highlights. Interview with WSI's VP Bryan Kanarens The show started out with the history of how WSI was formed giving the symbols of the company on both exchanges. Mr Kanarens explained how WSI's infrastructure of direct marketing, internet development, and online marketing companies lends itself to building internet businesses;hence incubation. He stressed a, number of times, that though WSI was formed only 6 months ago, they have really been in the direct marketing business for 10 yrs. and understand it very well. Their revenues come not only from the dot com companies created for themselves and others, but also from an existing client base from the 3 companies who came together to form WSI. Each week they have at least 1 business plan sent to them for a dot com company, which are mostly e-commerce plans. He stated that the key to success for an internet business is to be focused in a particular niche market and that the internet is the ultimate direct marketing medium. There was a phone in question and answer period. Question: Where do you see the stock price in the next 2 yrs and who is the competition and how do you plan to compete with them? Answer: Mr. Kanarens said he obviously sees it higher than it is today but they really don't pay a lot of attention to the stock price. They are concentrating on the business and moving it forward and if they do that you'll see the stock price "who knows where" but can't honestly say where you'll see it 2 yrs from now. Competition: Says there are many incubators out there but while he wouldn't discount them as competition, because of WSI's 10 yr history and rock solid infrastructure they have many competitive edges. Ultimately he'd like to say their competitor is CMGI who they have modeled themselves after. Question: How do you think the landscape of the internet will change how his business operates. Answer: He stated the internet will continue to grow and as far as major changes, he see's the convergence of voice and video technologies changing the way people do business on the net. Mr. Kanarens stated WSI is investing heavily in video convergence technology because what they see as one of their major revenue streams, which is e-advertising and e-based direct marketing, benefiting greatly from people being able to download video and audio messages. He also thinks it will add to their competitive edge. Question: What is your outlook for the incubator industry in 2000 Answer: He said the industry is one of massive growth and those that will be successful are those like themselves. They have a rock solid infrastructure both in terms of marketing and technology. "If you don't have the right stuff you will see a lot of people fall by the wayside." Other notes of interest Mr. Karanens brought out about WSI - they understand marketing in the context of the web - they know how to manage growth in such a way that they are going to be here for the long haul - 6 months they grew from 18 to 44 people - assets have increased from just under 1 mil to 3 mil. - their marketing team brings to the table the ability to grow in a controlled yet rapid fashion - very talented and active board of directors.
