Ireland did not GIVE power- it was TAKEN- the history of Ireland is all about people trying to get their freedom BACK (from England).

I don't know, but my assumption is that if free enterprise had been allowed to flourish in Ireland, the people would have suffered far less and not been driven to America and her shores in such numbers.

Well just looking at today in Ireland, there are extremely favorable tax laws which have lured all these multinationals to operate their "European HQs" there, while at the same time the arcane laws on the books are still around... no divorce, etc.

Now how long can an international business hub operate with no divorce? I don't know, seems mighty backward. Not to mention no birth control availability, etc.

I suspect capitalism wins out again, at which point maybe some of the struggles in Belfast will seem irrelevant too.
