Look at the source again. It's Tom's Hardware Guide, not exactly a web site that really wants to put Rambus in a positive light.

They just gave a glowing review to the 840. How does that fit into your conspiracy theory?

They already tried to call the curtain on the 820 Camino chipset by publishing a "preview" that made the performance look worse than a 440BX system w/ SDRAM.

The results were consistent with the results other people got with pre-production samples, so your insinuation - that Tom's Hardware fabricated the results - is baseless.

If anything, that makes their current performance results with DDR suspect at best.

It sounds like you are accusing them of deliberate fraud, since that's the only way to get a machine to seem *faster* than it really is. (There are other ways to slow a machine down, such as incompetence).

Ironically, the yapping over a few percentage points in benchmarks isn't going to mean squat in the big picture, because the real question is one of availability, cost, and production. If Rambus can address all three concerns and solve them very soon, it can still make big headway into the DRAM market even if DDR proves to be a little better in performance.

They can make some headway in non-PC markets, some of them substantial, but the window of opportunity for PC main memory is closed. They will have another chance when people go looking for a successor to DDR.
