Well, that particular sentence applied to Christine and one or two others, not you. It means that it is not an issue of "possessing our children" versus respecting their autonomy, but, as I elaborate, one of discharging our responsibility. It is true that, rounding up remarks from the discussion, I mentioned sardonically the idea that our children belong to society, which you advanced. The point that you draw out here is perfectly useful, and I am sorry for treating the earlier formulation with levity. But my son is "my son", not "society's son", however much part of my responsibility in raising him is to society.......
