That is to say, research is bunch, in 500 words or less, once more. I find it somewhat controversial that one USNews article, plus one other somewhat misrepresented study, is supposed to override all the other research, but that's life.

There were studies alluded to in the article which did not prove, but which suggested, as a matter for further study, that spanking was more effective than other techniques.....Again, by invoking spousal battery, you confuse issues, and it is getting tiresome. Since I have no problem with protecting children from battery, the issue hinges on whether moderate spanking is harmful, and the best data says it is not. Therefore, there is no basis for taking an invasive stance towards those families that employ it...... Message 12330655

What the dreaded USNews article actually said was:

A few studies suggest that when used appropriately, spanking makes small children less likely to fight with others and more likely to obey their parents.

Doesn't say anything about being "more effective than other techniques", does it? Much less all your other blathering about what the "best data" says. But when all the "research" you got is a vague allusion in a USNews article, what can you do? Sounds like litigator's tactics to me, Neocon, or maybe it's just cheesy high school debate tricks.
