C-Cube Powers Cisco Video-Over-IP Networking Product

MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 20, 1999--C-Cube Microsystems (Nasdaq: CUBE) today announced that their single-chip DVxpert(TM) 5120 broadcast CODEC for streaming digital video over the Internet will provide MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 video encoding for Cisco Systems' (Nasdaq: CSCO) newly announced Video-Over-IP Networking product, the IP/TV 3400 Broadcast Server.

The C-Cube CODEC has been integrated into an advanced digital video networking solution created by Optibase, a leading provider of streaming media solutions for broadband internet applications. Earlier this year, Optibase announced a formal agreement to supply Cisco with its solution for the IP/TV 3400 Server.

Cisco selected the Optibase solution with C-Cube CODEC for their IP/TV Broadcast Server to allow efficient streaming of high quality video over networks while conserving bandwidth.

"We are pleased to have C-Cube as a silicon partner," said Bob DeFeo, President of Optibase, Inc. "C-Cube's CODEC plays an important role in our MPEG digital video technology and is ideal for Cisco customers who wish to deliver high quality video across the enterprise."

"Delivery of high quality, real-time video over narrowband as well as broadband networks is critical to the future success of the Video-Over-IP market," said Ray Newstead, vice president and general manager of C-Cube's Broadband Network Division. "We meet the market's challenge with a low-cost solution that incorporates the broadcast industry's most advanced MPEG compression algorithms and image processing techniques for delivery of the richest possible image quality to the desktop."
