I have a couple of observations abut this whole "bad breadth" issue. First, the market, and in particular the Naz, will go down 10% to 20% at some time in the future. Next month, next April, sometime. And when this happens, the usual suspects will give it a name, a label, calling it a "correction." The main issue is whether there has been a change in the economic fundamentals. If no, it is a buying opportunity for the right stocks (Q, etc.). If yes, it means other actions will need to be taken by the prudent investor.

A second point. None of these articles seem to quote the people who talk about "divergence from the mean" being a fundamental change that is taking place in the investment world. These folks (yes they support the emergence of the new economy) see this situation - the rich stocks getting richer and the others getting poorer, as exactly what ought to be happening.

I think it will be three to five years before we know which view is correct.
