edamo - Your remark about Greenspan is without merit, like a lot of your statements. If you listen to Greenspan carefully you will discover he doesn't make economic forecasts. He absolutely doesn't make economic forecasts -- not publicly. What then does he do? He mostly discusses and analyses the past. Many of his speeches focus on economic trends. He also often works public policy issues into the mix, such as social security reform or the minimum wage. He muses, frets, chides, cajoles, and sounds cautionary notes and notes of optimism. He does all these things, and more, but the one thing he doesn't do is forecast. Why not? Because any forecast he made could be seen as signaling a shift in Fed policy, which in turn could roil the markets. The thinking at the Fed is that this is not the best way to convey to the markets shifts in Fed intentions.
