Re : <<two reasons to sell QCOM>> Third (possible) reason -- to make a donation (of QCOM stock) to a charity. (I guess this still means that you will not actually sell it. Someone else will ...)

The tax implications of donating stock that is up about 20-fold make it real easy to be generous. (Plus, one doesn't have to worry about reaching a holding period of a year and a day for tax reasons).

Jon.

Cosmo,

Agree with you. As of this writing, the Q has a market cap of about 75B, which in this day and age of high tech, relatively not an outrageous cap.

With tremendous growth prospects for the next 5 years, the Q could easily afford to grow to 150-170B by Q4, 2000. I am predicting that there is a boatload of individual investors who are salivating to get in, but are waiting for after the split so that they can buy "cheaper."

The Q will 200 by the end of January. Afterwards, if there is no news, it will correct with the market. IMO.

John

I purchased shares of QUALCOMM for 10.00 and 15.00 in 1992 and continued to purchase until April 1999 and I am not selling one share.QUALCOMM is destined to go down as one of the greatest technology companies ever.

About selling Q...crazy.
Very well written Cosmo...I agree with your list of reasons for selling...they are the only ones. None apply to me, therefore...no selling from canyon boy.
It matters not the price I paid for Q and the profits I am sitting on. What I am interested in is multiplying my gains by obscene proportions in the future by holding a once in a life time stock.
Then I can fund all the programs I always wanted to run as a teacher. That is why I am here.
I am also NOT interested in giving the government 42% of my short term gains or 20 whatever % long term. They can get it from someone else.
Folks, before dashing off and selling for fear of a correction (which WILL COME by the way)...think about how much of the potential gains you will be missing by MISSING WHEN to get back in.
Gurus aside, timing a gorilla stock like this one is useless. Sit back and make money.

Back to the cigar.

Hi Cos,

I do not understand why anyone would sell the Q unless like me they want to improve their leverage. Any pullback will simply be a buying opportunity. The reason I am going to the leaps is to give me leverage, it is not out of fear of a pullback but more out of increasing leverage and hoping for a pullback. We should be back to 250 to 300 within two months after split, with no more splits for year, easily $700 end of 2000.
