Probably a Canadian "case." American law students learn different cases. I remember reading an anecdote about a lawyer walking across Washington Square (in Manhattan, close to Columbia, I believe) when he was accosted by a beggar. The beggar took in the man's navy blue suit, his briefcase, his suspenders (braces) and his wire-rim glasses, and as the man passed the beggar, he called out, "You're a lawyer, aren't you? I used to be a law student. Can't you spare me ten dollars?" But the man kept walking. The beggar cried out, "Wait! I'll prove it to you! Pennoyer versus Neff! Pennoyer versus Neff!" At that, the man stopped, reached into his wallet, and handed the beggar ten dollars.

I don't suppose anybody but an American lawyer would find that amusing, but it cracks me up.

(Pennoyer versus Neff is a seminal case in federal civil procedure. I could tell you all about it, without cracking a law book, thirteen years after I last read it. There is probably something seriously wrong with me.)
