congratulations, YOu have now paid the government twice. Once when you sold the stock to get the cash in the form of either cap gains or regular income tax, and a second time when you LOST the tax deduction that you would have gotten on the extra money you would have donated including the commisions for selling the stock.

Bottom line : ALWAYS DONATE THE STOCK.
