It seems like $2.5B for Pirelli is a firesale price. It would have made sense for CIEN to make the acquisition first to reduce the number of players and pick up additional market share. But the management of CIEN must have figured this all out and remain confident that they can make it. Or they figured they better not pick up Pirelli so that they could leave some food in the food chain for the big guys and duck any acquisition issue for a little longer. Who knows? Long on CIEN and holding.
