Patsy - Re: "Would the performance improvment in the
700Mhz modile version be more than 20% faster than the one I have on order?"

The SpeedStep version of the mobile Coppermine Processors will run at 600 or 700 MHz WHEN THE mobile PC is operated off AC power - using the typical AC-DC adapters that are provided by the notebook manufacturers.

Thus, when you operate off the AC line, the notebook PC will indeed run 100 to 200 MHz faster.

However, when operating off the INTERNAL BATTERY of your notebook PC, the SpeedStep hardware/software senses this and drops the operating frequency down to about 500 MHz (or possibly some user-definable value) to extend the battery life.

If speed is your utmost important consideration and you use the AC line a lot, then wait for the new SpeedStep Coppermine notebooks due early next year.

However, if you operate primarily from batteries (ie., during travel) both versions may deliver comparable performance at comparable speeds.

You've got to give us more info...what kind of apps do you intend to run, how much RAM will you have, what kind of budget, is battery life important, etc.
