David, Besides inflation per se, the FED is also concerned with 'unsustainable growth' (as Justa has pointed out).

Greenspan has also mentioned 'the wealth effect' as a concern in the past. He specifically mentioned property/real estate.

IMHO, however, stock prices should justifiably be included in any such concern targeted toward 'the wealth effect'.
