"I just noticed this. How can Jesus, be of David's lineage, if he is not actually descended from Joseph?"

By adoption! One of David's great grandmothers was the Maobitess Ruth. She was adopted into Israel by marrying Boaz. Ephraim and Manasseh were also Egyptians from their mother but became Israelites through Jacob's blessing and adoption. Bathsheba was a Canaanite who became the mother of Solomon and the great great....grandmother of Jesus.

The ancient Israelite nation was first and foremost a spiritual nation, a nation of faith built upon the faith of Abraham. The "racial" and geographical aspects of the ancient Israelites served as a type and symbol for the Kingdom of God established by Jesus. The ancient Israelites were established from mixed ethnic groups from the very beginning.

Joseph's adoption of Jesus made Jesus share in the genealogical heritage of Joseph and consequently fulfilled the scriptures.

RE>>I just noticed this. How can Jesus, be of David's lineage, if he is not actually descended from Joseph?"<<

Are you telling the truth... I presume you are. ( This has been raised many times and you have received the truth from Emile.)

Adoption... even as Rahab ( Not Jewish ) is a part of the lineage by adoption by faith!

Our family is the family of Faith and not of the flesh.

Jesus is indeed David's son by adoption but so is David the brother of Christ and mine by adoption being a son of God :-}

Jesus put this forth to confound those who do not understand faith...

Luke 20:41 And he said unto them, How say they that Christ is David's son?

Luke 20:44 David therefore calleth him Lord, how is he then his son?

Same question spoken by Jesus Himself... likely did not bother Jesus any seeing he used it to advantage.

Now you have two witnesses of the same truth.. how could you possibly doubt us?

Mark, Mary the Holy Mother of Jesus was a direct descendant of King David. This heritage is important although no one mentioned it.

Santiago

><>...Good evening Mark...><>

Santiago is exactly right! Joseph had nothing at all to do with the birth of Jesus the Christ! I am not really sure why everyone else here left her out of the equasion. She is the only important factor....as a matter of fact!

His mother Mary was in fact of the line of David and also the line of Levi! And how perfect of God His Father to have considered everything.!
i.e.
1.The Lion of the tribe of Juda...Thr King Line
And
2.Our High Priest ....The Priest Line.....The most High Priest!!

If you are inclined...the genealogy of Jesus the Christ can be found in Luke 3:23-38 Which is in fact the genealogy of Mary... Not... Joseph. Notice there are no begats.. And there is a very good reason why Joseph was used and not Mary.

Luke 3:23
23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed)(This is translated...by law) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,
Heli was the father of Mary, Not Joseph!

Remember also Joseph was only His legal father.
Joseph's genealogy can be found in Matthew 1:1-16

Matt 1:16
16 And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.

Hope this helps you.

Have a good evening
Shalom...><>
