Jim, Re: "I don't know about aggressive but Intel is Scramblin', announcing chips "before their time".

Oh? Get your HP Pavilion 8500 series PC, with an Intel Pentium III 800Mhz processor for less than 2,000 bucks.

However: The latest HP
Vectra corporate desktop PCs, HP Kayak PC Workstations and HP NetServer systems will support the new
Pentium III 800Mhz processor in a variety of configurations and are expected to be available in the first
calendar quarter of 2000.

Yes, that disclaimer is in the ad. PCs are now being announced before their actual general availability, which has been the case for larger computers, up to and including mainframes, for years. Makes it OK, I guess.

Re: "...if Intel can pull off a good quarter without some fancy accounting practitices or sales of LNUX or RHAT etc. it
will either be a wonder or be because demand for all chips has gone crazy."

I think the latter is happening. Intel's plans for the multiple plants expansion that came out last week (Oregon, Massachusetts, etc.) makes it look like they're capacity constrained big time. Massachusetts? Andy Bryant must have to sign off on that one. Actually, I'm sure he does on all significant plant upgrades.

What do you think of Intel's performance lead increasing over AMD? No L2 on die is really beginning to make a difference. Oh, I remember, Megahertz sells, right?

Jim, re:

"Feed some high Mhz Floppers to key Tier one OEMs so they won't lose them to AMD"
"To regain some lost Mhz pride"
"Sure din't allow Intel to take their sweet time with the Flopper release like they wanted."
"an act of desperation"

Jim, you must have great connections within Intel to know their emotions and motivations. Credit where credit is due, you can spin news to match your viewpoint with the best. A casual reader of your post would think Intel is beaten, demoralized and on the brink of bankruptcy.

re: "I've owned Intel on and off for many years." Off and on was my point.

re: "Had the opportunity at 71 5/8 but didn't take it." You had an opportunity to buy and hold Intel at about $10. (split adjusted) when we first exchanged notes on Prodigy. If you had, you would be as wealthy as I am today <g>.

Jim, re: "I predict that only Dell will have 800s into the end of January."

Good prediction! -

Wern't you also predicting an imminent market meltdown in October over Y2K (1000 NASDAQ points ago)?

Isn't Intel is up since you sold your shares.

I'm beginning to see a pattern.
