Does anyone one this board have any insight as to when or if Compaq may Standardize CD-RW drives across their entire home desktop line? I defer to rudedog, John, or one of our other techies on that one. El

Hi Rocky,

This area seems to change weekly <gggg>. Somehow I doubt CD-RW will become the standard with DVD already out there. Currently, high end PC's contain both a DVD and CD-RW drive, and I read that one of the Japanese manufacturers (I think it is Toshiba but I am not 100% sure) is releasing a drive using a blue light laser that will support both the DVD and CD-RW formats in one drive. That seems like a better way to go. However, rewriteable DVD is also on the horizon, and there is some fighting going on over standards on that one as I understand it, so it is hard to predict how this will ultimately end up...

Regards,
John
