So how do you decide that a dip below your entry price is a trip to the basement and not just random noise in the bottoming process...or do you just sell automatically when it dips below entry?

Ho, ho, ho. That's my secret. I look for different types of support. My entry price usually is chosen with a defined maximum (but minimal) loss, based on where support for the stock is. Hey, it's technical analysis, and probably not fit for here.
