Hmm. It is a curious move. They said it was for the R&D department. What I will look for in the future is how quickly Cisco announces a significant product from this Pirelli deal. That will be proof that they are able to turn a buck from this.

You write: "No one has convinced me that Pirelli -- a two bit European player is worth the 2 billion. More importantly, the integration issue will potentially detract Cisco from doing what it really needs to do to compete in the PTT/Carrier market."

Silly boy,

The market liked CSCO's move and the stock appreciation on today's move was greater than 20Billion in Market cap so paying 2Billion for the "bit European player" was well received. Or do you know more than the market?

By the way, with your rather negative view of Italy, why do you choose to do business there? Or why did the company you work for send you, the telecom guy to a telecom backwater/do 90% of your business there (based on my impression of your post concerning Italy)?

Thanks for the unbiased opinion, telecomguy. For some reason, I don't think that the integration of 700 workers will detract the entire company (and its +20,000 employees) from it's business, no matter how difficult it may be.

I am curious to see how this will turn out and I am hoping that the excellent management team made the right decision!

BWDIK,
Justin

P.S. Your type has been here before. They come and go all the time!

My business is almost 90% in Italy...........Cisco potentially has no idea what it is getting itself into.""

I live in Milan,Italy, but I do 100 % of my business in Switzeralnd and the United States. This is a great place to live but lousy place to invest! This not only goes for
Italy but for the rest of EC, with the exception of United
Kingdom!

a two bit European player is worth the 2 billion. "

I am not usre if yor discription of Pirelli is correct. What is Pirelli's yearly ? What is Csco's yearly turnover?

I guess we will have to wait for Cisco to make a PR release to find out WHY they bought Pirelli. ""

Whare did you get that wild idea? CSCO bought Pirelli? Pirelli makes tire! Did you know? CSCO took equity
in one of Pirelli's companies!

Pls. get your self documented!
